Immobilisation and Tracking Questions
What is Safe Engine Cut Off (SECO)?
This is the ability to use your mobile phone to safely disable your vehicle if it has been stolen, bringing it safely to a stop with no risk to the vehicle, its occupants, or bystanders.
As car enthusiasts ourselves, our biggest concern was that rare day when you forget to lock or arm your car’s security appropriately and it is then stolen. Using ImmoTrack, you can immediately use your phone to disable your car in real time, no matter where you or your car happen to be.
However, what do you do if you receive the notification that your car is on the move? With our service, you can monitor the vehicle in real-time and choose when to request that the car is disabled. Once the vehicle is travelling at 20km/h or less, the engine will turn off and the car will coast to a safe halt. You can then travel to your vehicle while communicating with Law Enforcement to make sure that you recover your vehicle.
Are older vehicles supported?
Absolutely! ImmoTrack Online was created based on a specific desire to provide security to such vehicles. We can provide tracking and remote immobilisation to your vehicle whether carburetted or fuel injection.
Will it flatten my battery?
No. The Teltonika trackers we provide consume less than 10mA (ten milliamps) of current when connected to a vehicle 12 volt battery system, whilst maintaining a connection to the 4G mobile network. For our Stored Vehicle service, this consumption is reduced to less than 5mA. If you are storing a vehicle for extended periods of time, we do recommend keeping your car on a battery charger, as any vehicle battery will discharge over long periods, even without a GPS tracker fitted.
Where will the trackers work?
We exclusively use 4G tracking modules that use the Internet of Things (IoT) 4G standard (LTE Cat M1), which provides an extremely reliable long range connection when traditional 4G protocols may not be able to connect. Put simply, if there is a mobile tower in range, your tracker will stay in contact with our service, and you will have assurance of knowing where your vehicle is.
What if the tracker does go out of signal?
Our tracking modules have 128MB of onboard storage, which is enough data to store all data from a vehicle moving all day for over 12 months. As soon as a 4G network is detected, the tracker will immediately upload its most recent location, and then subsequently upload all of its location history. Within minutes, the complete history of where the unit has been will be available.
For controlling the vehicle immobiliser, you may either resort to the backup immobilisation toggle switch, or if you have chosen to also add our Tap-To-Drive feature with Automated Immobilisation, you don’t need a mobile signal at all!
Where is this hosted?
All services and data is hosted in Australia, and it will stay that way for Australian customers. If there is interest from overseas, we will either service them from Australia or spin up a separate service for them in-region.
We comply with all privacy regulations and don’t provide your information to anyone.
Why is the Stored Vehicle plan not suitable for Daily Driving?
The short answer is the cost we bear for operating the service on vehicles that move around a lot. If you subscribe to the stored vehicle plan, the GPS tracker module is configured to check in very infrequently and won’t provide anything like real-time data. You may even have delayed requests to activate a disabled vehicle.
You may still use the immobiliser service on a stored vehicle plan, and if your vehicle is stolen, you can instruct the vehicle to send real-time updates.
Where are the installation guides?
We provide high level information in our Guides and Examples page. Detailed installation guides are provided to customers privately to help reduce the risk of thieves identifying how our solution has been installed.
We also have additional guidance hosted on our Wiki at https://docs.immotrack.online
You can always contact us directly for additional details on how to perform installations, or to book an installation in the Melbourne metro area for a flat install fee.
Why use our service?
There are many options for GPS tracking solutions, including simple buy-and-forget systems. We are not targeting that market - we are offering a managed service with a focus on remote vehicle immobilisation with Safe Engine Cut Off, and ongoing support, with guaranteed hosting in Australia and following all Australian Data Sovereignty and Privacy laws.
