Oh, Brap!
We got a call early today from one of our main dealers asking if we could do a rush job intercept design for the classic FD RX-7.
No context just yet….just LOOK at these things. <Insert Biting Fist Meme here>
I would die for you.
Great, kid. Don’t get cocky!
No problem, pre-CANbus car, just need to review the wiring diagrams and find the traditional reliable intercept! Do the research, write up the guide, fire off to the dealer. Sit back, have a beer or two and put the footy on.
Nope.
The trick with this gig we have created for ourselves here is that not all cars are as simple an intercept as one might assume. Sure enough, rotary meant that the engine control systems on these are somewhat, ah, Arcane.
Indeed, the phone rings and the news isn’t the best. “Followed the guide, the car keeps running” is the message.
Oh, Brap. (See what I did there? It’s a rotary joke!)
Bonus: Marketing!
So this is where the temporary bad news is an opportunity to show how we differentiate and stand out in the vehicle security market. Sure we’re not Ghost or IGLA doing CANbus sniffing and injecting messages onto the car’s computer network, but we do offer a similar service: give us a car you want immobilised, and we’ll work it out.
Our dealer can attest if he would like to, but on that very phone call we received, we solved the issue and reliably immobilised the FD RX-7. As with all of our designs, we provided reliable engine start immobilisation, and safe remote engine shutdown (aka Safe Engine Cut Off / SECO).
Alright, let’s get back to more FD RX-7 pics, because really, that’s what we’re all here for.
I’ll be in my bunk.
